The brand new Furano Snow School specializes in English language lessons, with a variety of group and private coaching options for every level and age of skier or boarder. Multi-day lessons are a great way to constantly improve your technique through your stay. For the adrenalin junkies we highly recommend a backcountry day tour with Hokkaido Powder Guides. These tours focus on exploration and enjoyment of the amazing backcountry areas of Asahidake, Kurodake, Kamui, and Tomamu… you will come away with not only a huge smile on your face but also improved understanding of the mountains and powder technique.

Furano Snow School is the resort’s first and only school to offer a full English program, including private and open group lessons. For private lessons, great care is placed in finding the perfect method to develop your own personal style, with flexible start times allowing you to be first in the powder or spend a few hours warming up beforehand. Multi-day lessons offer discounted rates, perfect for long-staying guests. The meeting point is just 40 m from Fresh Powder Apartments.   • Full-day and Multi-day lessons are 4 hours of instruction time, with a 1 hour lunch break at noon. Lunch cost is on your own.
  • "Morning Session" is aimed towards upper intermediate / advanced skiers and boarders.

Furano Snow School Ability Guide

Level 1. (Beginner)

  • Skiers have not yet mastered wedge (snowplough) stopping. Goal: Make controlled stops and basic turns.
  • First-time snowboarders who are unfamiliar with basic movement. Goal: Skate, side-slip, and basic turn.

Level 2. (Upper Beginner)

  • Skiers who can stop in a wedge and make basic turns. Goal: Gain confidence on easy runs, link turns with control and rhythm.
  • Snowboarders who can traverse but still have difficulty turning. Goal: Learn to turn on both sides, then link turns.

Level 3. (Intermediate)

  • Skiers who can start a turn in a wedge and finish in parallel. Goal: Gain confidence on intermediate runs, start turns in parallel.
  • Snowboarders who can link turns most of the time. Goal: Learn to link turns with more confidence on intermediate runs.

Level 4. (Advanced)

  • Skiers who can ski blue runs confidently with strong parallel turns. Goal: Ski advanced and expert trails with confidence in a variety of conditions.
  • Snowboarders who can turn confidently in a variety of terrain. Goal: Learn to ride with a consistent rhythm on a variety of terrain and conditions.

Hokkaido Powder Guides

Hokkaido Powder Guides (HPG) offers incredible back country tours to the nearby Asahidake region and awe-inspiring off-piste skiing around the Furano, Kamui, and Tomamu resorts. Operating since 2004 the director of HPG, Chuck Olbery has been treating skiers and boarders alike to the some of the most incredible snow on the planet. HPG pride themselves on offering a quality guided service to the highest standard with a low ratio of guides to skiers for a safer, more successful, more efficient and more enjoyable ski experience. Kimura Ski School – New Furano Prince Hotel

4-time Olympian Kiminobu Kimura runs this high quality ski school located at the base of the Furano Zone. When he’s not conducting camps in Europe, Mr Kimura is often seen on the local mountains at New Years’, the Furano Ski Festival, and during other events. The Kimura Ski School has spun off its reputed English Lesson branch to create the Furano Snow School in 2009.

Kitanomine Ski School

The Kitanomine Ski School employs experienced local instructors to cater to all levels of skiing. They operate full-season ski classes for local grade-schoolers, host SAJ qualification tests, and their expert staff can often be seen teaching large groups of first-time skiers from mainland Japan.
