Furano is renowned for having more blue sky days than other ski resorts in Hokkaido, which makes it a perfect place to launch skyward in a balloon and take in the spectacle below. Furano is spectacular in winter. Snow laden peaks overshadow vast forest of silver birch intertwined with beautiful fir trees. The tranquility experienced in the forests and woods around the resort is inspiring. Each guest on the tour is fitted with a pair of specially designed snow shoes and given an introduction on how to walk with them. Children especially seem to enjoy the novelty of the shoes and the technique required to walk in them. Here children and adults alike can navigate courses on a snow raft or banana ride whilst getting towed behind a snow mobile. For the more adventurous you can shoot down a banked course on a tube, gaining a good deal of speed on the way. It is definitely worth spending a morning there.
