The resort township of Kitanomine is perfectly positioned overlooking the Furano Valley on the lower slope of the Kitanomine ski area. The ski area is easily accessed by the Kitanomine High Speed Gondola located at the upper end of the resort. Furano Fresh Powder Apartments are only thirty metres from the Kitanomine Gondola, allowing guests to stroll out the front door and be first on top of the mountain. The Fresh Powder Chalet is located on the edge of a beautiful recreation park, opposite the 7-11. It is a short walk to the ski lifts in the morning and evening, whilst at night its ideal location in the heart of the village provides easy access to all the restaurants and bars.
Located only five minutes away in the valley below, the beautiful Sorachi river winds around Furano's downtown area. With a population of about 25,000, Furano has every modern convenience you could wish for. The area boasts over 200 restaurants featuring locally-grown produce. The district has a policy of "local production for local consumption" so meals are created with incredibly pure fresh ingredients. Everything from traditional Japanese to modern western cuisine is on offer with local Curries being the specialty. Hidden gems can often be found by adventurous travelers who are prepared to take a chance by opening any of the rice paper doors in the backstreets of Furano.
Drinking options are also plentiful in Kitanomine and Furano. On the mountain snow domes provide the perfect location to "chill out" with a glass of sake or a cold beer. A number of "onsen" mineral baths throughout the resort offer the perfect chance to relax and unwind after an exciting day. For guests looking for more than just skiing numerous companies offer a wide variety of activities such as dog sledding, hot air ballooning, ice hole fishing, onsen tours, snow mobiling, snow rafting, back country tours and more. For families the New Furano Prince Hotel provides an area "Snow Land" that is ideal for children. A number of "onsen" mineral baths throughout the resort offer the perfect chance to relax and unwind after an exciting day.
