Chitose and Sapporo

The train to Niskeo Hirafu is very easy to use but does generally require train changes at either Sapporo or Otaru stations. This involves a change of platform which is not difficult as the signs are in English and the rail staff are very helpful. Guests travelling to Niseko Hirafu should disembark at the Kutchan station. A word of caution: there is a station named Niseko, but the station is actually some distance from the ski resort and is not a suitable way to get to Niseko Hirafu. Taxis are usually waiting for guests at the station requiring a fare of around ¥2000 to arrive at Niseko Fresh Powder Apartments.

Purchasing Tickets

Travelers can either purchase a ticket from the counter at the JR station or for the more adventurous commuter you can visit the automated ticket machine. The machines are very user friendly and have a touch screen button allowing you to complete the purchase steps in English. Previous guests have gained a good feeling of accomplishment mastering the automated system. Tickets on the train can only be purchased at the time of travel with no pre-bookings permitted hence Fresh Powder staff are unable to organize and pay for travel to Niseko via the train.

Route Maps

The JR Hokkaido Railway company produces an excellent route map depicting all the train lines through-out Hokkaido. We recommend printing out the maps on the LHS prior to your travel so you can enjoy the journey by following your progress on the map. Should you require assistance on your journey it may be an idea to practice some basic Japanese phrases as limited English may be spoken. Please visit the JR Hokkaido website or click here for the latest time tables of trains in Hokkaido.
