Although renowned for being a powder paradise in winter, Niseko is actually a paradise for activities in summer. Below are just a few of the more popular pastimes.
NisekoGolf.com specializes in golfing tours and packages to Niseko. They will be happy to arrange a package for you staying at Fresh Powder Apartments. Alternatively you can arrange you can easily contact the golf courses directly to book a round. The region boasts no fewer than five top quality courses within close proximity to Niseko Hirafu. Most courses are open to the public during weekdays but may close at times on weekends with tournaments. We recommend the 18 hole, par 73 Niseko Hilton Golf Course in Higashiyama. For early risers, and by early we mean 04:30am the course offers heavily discounted green fees which provide exceptional value.
Niseko is famed throughout Hokkaido for this activity in summer. During this time thousands of school children descend upon the region to partake in organized outdoor activity camps based around rafting. The good news for families, couples and singles is the companies run specialized tours catering for small groups separate from the chaotic school groups. The three main companies in Niseko are NOASC, NAC and SAS. All three companies employ well trained professional rafting guides for your safety. We highly recommend giving it a go.
The paintball field is approximately one kilometre from Niseko Hirafu on the way towards the township of Kutchan, near the turnoff off to the old Niseko Kutchan road. The field is littered with inflatable obstacles designed to provide protection from being shot by a paintball gun. Paintball Niseko provides the safety equipment for a great day out including face mask, goggles, overalls and gloves. The cost of the activity is dependant upon how many paint balls you purchase. This is a great winter sport also. Contact Niseko Paintball for more information.
Just new to Niseko, Bridge Swinging is a combination between a bungy jump and a giant rope swing. NOASC, based on the main street of Niseko runs this tour and many others. Participants in the bridge swing will be transported from Niseko to the bridge close to town, given a helmet, a thorough briefing and will be tethered to the bridge via a climbing rope. After working up the courage guests will take the giant leap for the thrill of their life. For more information and bookings we recommend you contact NOASC directly via their website.
Shower Climbing, water slider and abseil are just a few of the words you will need to learn to partake in “Sawakudari”, Japanese for Canyoning. Forget your raft or kayak on these tours your only equipment is your wetsuit encased body as you slide down river chutes, jump off ledges into water pools, scramble and ascend rock formations. This sport is slowly emerging as the next big outdoor adventure craze in Japan and we encourage you to try it yourself. The sense of achievement after a tour is quite exhilarating. NAC offers tours aimed more at the adrenalin junky whilst NOASC specialize more in beginner family tours.
Meander over beautiful trails or point the nose down the hill and hang on. You have the choice in Niseko. Leisurely cross country tours are offered by several activity companies including NOASC and NAC. For downhill tours and free rides your best bet is to visit the newly created Niseko Mountain Bike website. It has fantastic information about the trails in the area, a very helpful forum and blog along with a huge library of information on Mountain Biking in the region.
